General Description

Sunshine Bicycle Center in Fairfax CA is seeking an experienced full-time Buyer responsible for purchasing, maintaining stock and displaying accessories and parts inventory for our fast paced retail store and service center.

Secondarily, the Buyer also acts as back up to Retail Sales staff at the manager's discretion, and performs occasional light support tasks in other shop areas on manager's request.

Duties

Buyer - Primary Duties

    • Purchase, maintain, display and merchandise the following inventory categories for our retail storefront and service center.
      • Accessories
      • Components & Service Parts
      • Small Clothing
      • Nutrition & Body Care
    • Maintain Lightspeed data on inventory on an ongoing basis, including suggesting and implementing improvements.
    • Maintain up to date vendor information database.
    • Efficiently and accurately coordinate with store owner and staff on inventory needs.
    • Work to solve relevant warranty issues with customers and vendors/manufacturers.

Buyer - Secondary Duties

    • Back up Retail Sales staff at the manager's discretion during busy periods, including providing service to customers in person or on the phone including general questions, cashier duties, basic service evaluation and writing, bike rental reservations, etc. Generally this would not include in depth bike sales questions, test rides, etc.
    • Assist staff in opening and closing procedures such as storing outdoor bicycle inventory, shop organization.
    • Attend occasional after- or before- hours weekday staff meetings.
    • Coordinate annual inventory.
    • Provide store Marketing/Online with information on trending or new inventory. May include occasional descriptive writing.
    • Provide optional additional light marketing support of photos, articles, reviews, trip or race posts, lifestyle or other content submitted to marketing for use online and marketing materials.

Please note that this job may require occasionally bending and lifting 30-60 pounds.

Experience & Requirements

Experience:

    • Must have  2-4 years of full- or part-time professional buying/purchasing experience at an IBD in the US, or B2B sales experience at a bicycle equipment manufacturer or distributor handling a wide range of goods.
    • Should have experience focusing on current mountain bikes and road bikes (required) and preferably also be familiar with town/commute, fitness, children's and eBikes (preferable).
    • Experience should be current or very recent.
    • Very familiar with current products across the areas of responsibility in quality, popularity, reliability and demographic appeal.
    • Skilled in reading a shop's inventory needs beyond the numbers; spotting emerging and fading trends and patterns, forecasting seasonal needs, tuning into the local audience's needs, etc.

Technical Requirements

    • Proficient on Windows based computers
    • Familiar and efficient with Lightspeed web based POS system, Google Drive, Mail & apps, MS Office apps, top industry B2B portals, navigating and using the web for researching parts, services, etc.
    • Able to type accurately and at moderate to fast speeds.

    • Adhering to and exemplifying (and hopefully exceeding!) shop standards for service, professionalism, accuracy, and appearance.
    • Strong and natural love for bikes and cycling culture.

    Reference Requirements

      • Must have two (2) or more strong, pertinent industry references who are familiar with and able to provide detailed insight into your skills and quality of your recent work.

    Schedule

    Full-time: Typical schedule (may vary):

    • 4 full weekdays
    • 1 full weekend day
    • Total 40 hours weekly

    Compensation

    $20-$25.00/hour depending on experience
