General Description

Sunshine Bicycle Center in Fairfax CA is seeking a full-time or part-time mechanic/sales person, experienced or entry level.

Experience & Requirements

Full-time: Prefer 2-4 years professional experience in bicycle retail or the bicycle industry, particularly with an emphasis on mountain biking.

Part-time: Prefer 1-2 years professional experience in bicycle retail or the bicycle industry, particularly with an emphasis on mountain biking.

Willing to train the right candidates from the ground up.

Experienced applicants would have more of a base in Mountain bikes, secondarily in road. Knowing current technologies, configuration, common issues and current accessories is a huge plus.

All candidates should be functional on Windows based computers, web based POS systems and Google Drive apps, as well as use of the general web (researching parts, services, etc.).

Able to type accurately and at moderate speeds.

All candidates should be good with customers and able to work equally and smoothly with all types of customer needs.

Excellent communications skills in person and over phone, email etc.

Must be good at consistently and  pleasantly operating in a fast paced customer-facing environment in a quality manner.

Must be good at problem solving and attention to detail.

Three or more excellent industry references are preferred.

Responsibilities

Will vary by day and by job configuration (not all are required for all positions):

  1. Bicycle Repair - evaluate repair needs, service writing, calculating estimates, researching & locating parts; performing repairs, tuneups or major overhauls; test riding; customer interaction, warranty coordination. Mostly scheduled, occasional on-the-spot.
  2. New Bike Assembly & Tuning - unboxing, assembling; tuning; test riding; cleaning, labeling, displaying). Basic to high end builds.
  3. Bicycle, Accessories & Soft Goods Sales - front of store assistance with customers of every type). Includes helping customers select from in-stock and available product from our brands, placing orders if needed, and followup.
  4. Uptake of evolving technical information related to bike build and repair. Attend new product or technical trainings or cover assigned training materials.
  5. Cashier duties for sales or repairs you assist with (or as needed fill in at register)
  6. Sales Assistance - working with customers to understand needs and select or recommend bikes, components, accessories, clothing and consumables.
  7. Part & Accessories Buying: Assessing inventory to determine stock needs; placing orders with vendors; receiving, checking in, pricing and stocking parts and accessories.
  8. Customer service in person, on phone and email.
  9. Adhering to and exemplifying shop standards for service, professionalism, accuracy, and appearance.
  10. Assist daily open/closing tasks.
  11. Attend occasional staff meetings.
  12. (Optional) Content Support - provide product or lifestyle content that can be developed into online use (new product reviews, bike trip journals or photos, race experiences, etc).

Please note that this job may require occasionally bending and lifting 30-50 pounds.

Schedule

Full-time: Typical schedule (may vary):

  • 4 full weekdays
  • 1 full weekend day
  • Total ~40 hours/week

Part-time: Typical schedule (may vary): 

  • 3 full or partial week days
  • 1 full or partial weekend day
  • Total ~30 hours/week

Compensation

Full-time: $15-$25/hour depending on experience

Part-time: $15-$22/hour depending on experience
